Basic Show Just Ended
Hi folks,
We have a couple of pics from the show at BASIC. Five dancers performed an interactive installation piece based on Conway's Game of Life. (For our purposes - if we had too many "neighbors," we died of starvation; too few neighbors, we died of loneliness. Death equals no dancing. If we had just a couple of neighbors, we switched our headlamps on and danced our hearts out. The excitement was that a neighbor was something different for each dancer...a piece of furniture, a person in the audience.) Supposedly some video from the show will be posted soon, so hopefully this will be more obvious in the video!
The space was great - pretty large with lofted ceilings and the world's largest ceiling fan (see below) (it's actually called the Big Ass Fan according to the label).
Jessica Gomula & Chris Kruzic's installation was also up on several scrims around the space, and Sean projected video as well throughout. We were thrilled to see a special feature, the Disembodied Head #4 video.
Once per hour, Sean also filmed a dancer performing a solo (Amanda's was on top of the pool table) and filtered it and projected it live throughout the space.
There were a lot of people here, and some of them got really into figuring out what we were doing. One guy even danced along...but I think he had been drinking.
We've been really happy with the venue and our hosts here in San Diego...there's a picture of Schugar and Sean talking video below. Thanks for your hospitality! Tomorrow we're off to LA. We have a three hour rehearsal to prep for our brand new, evening length show in Arizona - and then another rehearsal for our shows in LA on Friday and Saturday.
