oh, arizona....

Well... we're back in tucson :)

Today i heard many times "What day is it?" "Where are we?" (i.e. what city and state) and "What are we doing?".... we knew this week would be difficult and it has been. It's also been full of many great experiences.

as Wendy has said, Arizona is hot. HOT.

We had what was easily the worst show most of us had ever done at Trunk Space on Tuesday. I won't go into details, but let's just say that neither people or electronics work well at temperatures over 100-degrees. What should have been our usual slick 50-min performance turned into a nearly 2-hr live meltdown and breakdown...as wendy mentioned there were also nasty bugs involved.

THat said, I had so much fun staying with my cousin Sharon (many thanks to her!). It was like a true oasis in the rest of the frenzied phoenix experience.

ASU's theater space - the Dance Studio Theater - was also a breath of fresh air for me. I'd never been so inspired to just dance.. to create movement, do movement and watch movement... it was a natural playground and I'm grateful we had the experience to play there for two days.

I've also realized that we're all a bit crazy. I knew I was, but... Blaine didn't arrive by airplane until midnight on Wed. We got her out the door by 8am the next morning to head over to ASU, where she performed that afternoon without having had the chance to rehearse the day before. We then whisked her (and everyone else) off for the 2.5 hr drive back to Tucson for our 6:30 Tech Rehearsal at UA. During the car ride, we all were uneasy about how late we'd be (we wound up being only 5 min late), Blaine was trying to figure out what state she was even in, I was teaching her her choreography verbally, and both Blaine and Cecelia were sitting cross-legged in the back because there was too much gear, so it had to be stacked below, between and behind them.

So we made it. We had a decent Dress Rehearsal and now have a workshop/lecture, then a rehearsal, then the first show at UA today.... followed by another tomorrow.. and then tech rehearsal Sunday night at UNM - after a very long day of driving.

Crazy? totally. but for a good reason.

All of the artists on this tour are so amazingly committed to the goals and to the work.

THANK YOU. (i know they're all reading)

and thank you to all the family and friends who are reading this and keeping our spirits high when we don't even know where we are :)

more to come...
