Hailing from the bay that brought you the Grateful Dead, Emperor Norton, and the iPod, San Francisco’s intermedia performance group DOUBLE VISION continues to crank the cogwheel by presenting dance, video, noise, speed, energy, and seismic activity for stage. Works range from world premiers of Three Canons and Mise en Scénes and Video Action Painting, to reconstructions of the Futurist sintesi Macchina del 3000 (The Love of Two Locomotives for the Station Master), Feu d'Artifice and Macchina Tipograpfica. Throughout the evening’s performance, DOUBLE VISION connects art from the Internet Age to the dawn of the automobile while posing the question...what’s next?

Performances will present dance, music, video and intermedia works for the stage. Attendees can also
immerse themselves in installations by Simran Gleason, Jessica Gomula, Chris Kruzic and Tim Thompson before and after the performances in the gallery. On Sunday, Brooklyn-based experimental pianist, Shawn Onsgard and San Francisco’s own “Wild” Bill Wolter will entertain guests with an informal Piano Salon at 5:30pm. Bill Wolter will be joined by renowned San Francisco musicians John Ingle, Eric Hoagland, Jen Baker – Trombone and Matt Ingalls. Also, join the artists for a special reception following Thursday evening's show.


DOUBLE VISION, led by Sean Clute and Pauline Jennings, is a group of dancers, musicians, video-artists, and performers. By experimenting with different methods of collaboration through the adaptation of social systems, transvergence of scientific models, and mapping of algorithmic structures, DOUBLE VISION unifies multifaceted art forms and ideas to cultivate innovative performances and provoke communication.

Nightly Installations


Haunted Garden (Thursday - Sunday) - Simran Gleason
Haunted Garden is a room that listens to you and creates an ambient sound and light space based on what it hears. Its generative music algorithm detects musical notes in the room and uses mathematically related notes to compose ambient music. Haunted Garden has an interactive element: it determines which notes to play, and a touch-screen kiosk allows listeners to choose which instruments to play them on.

Life Games (Friday & Saturday) - Jessica Gomula & Chris Kruzic
Life Games is an interpretation of John Conway’s original Game of Life. In this interpretation the three active phases of life are replaced by a male element, a female element, and one of four possible parental units: heterosexual couple, homosexual male couple, homosexual female couple, and a test tube. As in our own culture, parental units are no longer limited to the coupling of a man and a woman. For some time now, adoption has been one alternative method to creating a family without the traditional man/woman structure. However, our culture has continued to explore other possibilities as well, as evidenced in the increased use of artificial insemination. Very soon now, through the advances in cloning, no parental unit will be necessary. People who have been cloned and parented by the “State” has been a theme in science fiction for decades already.
