Intermedia Workshop Series @ Garage

Intermedia performance group DOUBLE VISION will be hosting a series of four weekend workshops at the Garage in San Francisco this June 2009. The workshops, led by co-artistic director Pauline Jennings and part of RAW (resident artists workshop), will include a series of experiments designed to investigate self-organizing systems for performance. Artists, technologists, thinkers and tinkerers of all kinds - including but not limited to contemporary dancers, video artists, animators, musicians, painters, costume designers, mathematicians, engineers, software designers and interface builders - are welcome to participate! Our goals will be to push the boundaries of stage performance and to explore topics like John Conway's Game of Life, L-systems, swarm intelligence and other contemporary models.

To participate, please email Pauline by June 5 at pauline@double-vision.biz for workshop dates and details. All participants will be expected to come equipped with whatever tools they need to create.

Canale della Misericordia
Recording March 3, 2009 in Venice, Italy by Sean Clute

Accepted into the Illuminated Corridor's Port Radio Collection.

Online audio feed

Canale della Misericordia is a unedited eight minute night recording of a canal in Venice, Italy. One can hear the sound of anchored boats tugging against the city street, Fondamente Nuove, waves splashing, and occasional pedestrians passing by. Collectively, the recording depicts how even in the stillness of night, the vibrations of this unique 5th century city can be intense. In fact, it is a wonder how long or by what means the city can maintain this level of excitement over another thousand years. Regardless of these environmental questions, the enigmatic quality of the city remains a mystery as nature, human, and machine all unify in a fluid-like symphony.

Slippery Dreams

Slippery Dreams is an interactive installation/performance wherein floating animated creatures travel through a montage of surreal sexualized fantasies. Boars, princesses, and pixies fulfill each others desires by penetrating the subconscious of the viewer. Half performance, half installation, new media artists Sean Clute and Jessica Gomula use a variety of props and live cameras mixed with pre-record video and animation.

13 Dreams of a Dying Clairvoyant
An intermedia expoloration of life and death
Presented by Double Vision
The Oakland Metro

13 Dreams of a Dying Clairvoyant features nearly 40 performers who periodically "hatch" from twelve different mobile containers. Upon emerging from a container, each group presents their own autonomous music, dance, or video performance. These varied performances are unified by the theme "dreams: life cycle/death cycle," as well as costuming, space, and a strict time score that dictates when and for how long a group performs. Repetition of each individual piece, along with the unique theatrical setup of the Metro, allows the audience to explore various perspectives and to come and go as they wish.

You may enter and leave the Metro as you wish or stay the whole night to witness and experience the clairvoyant's journey through his last night; from calm dreams to a frenzied last vision.
